The Omni Eye Services Externship program has a long and proven track record, producing some of the most successful optometrists in the profession! Beginning with the first externs in 1982 from Southern College of Optometry and New England College of Optometry, Omni has been a training ground for fourth years who wish to increase their skills in diagnosing and managing ocular disease. Graduates of our accredited program have gone on to successful practices in the private, corporate, and academic realms, including many who have stayed in co-management as directors of their own centers of excellence, or as leaders in ophthalmology referral practices.
Our affiliations with many of the 22 schools and colleges of Optometry have made this site a diverse and sought after training ground. Yes, you can expect it to be challenging and at times difficult. Yes, it is fast paced with a vast array of ocular disease, from cataracts to glaucoma to retina to cornea. Yes, you will be hands-on working up many patients and increasing your speed and efficiency. You will become proficient at gonioscopy, advanced slit lamp and BIO skills, and be exposed to all the ancillary testing like optic nerve and retinal OCT, fields, and photography. You will spend time in surgery, including observation of the LenSx laser, DSAEK, Pterygium removal, and corneal transplants.
